Carte de Visite printed by Unknown Photographer
Carte de Visite of Civil War soldier printed by an Unknown Photographer
|
Face of the 4"x2-1/2" card has a very nice, detailed, studio tintype photograph of a Sergeant in the Union Army of the Civil War. The soldier's jacket appears to be a four-button jacket. The soldier is wearing a medal on his right breast of a bar with a three-leafed clover hanging from it. I assume that this must indicate something of his placement in the army. See this detail for an enlargement of the uniform.
The verso has a red two-cent Internal Revenue Proprietary tax stamp. The presence of the tax stamp dates this CDV to the period 1 Aug 1864 to 1 Aug 1866. Penciled writing on the front of this card reads "Yours truly Sergeant E.H. Nichols".
If anyone can determine anything about this Civil War soldier, from this hand-tinted tintype photograph, then feel free to
