24-inch Gauge Railroads that I have encountered in New Hampshire
One day in May of 2024, I was making the rounds through central New Hampshire, after picking up my winning auction lot of an Ingraham gingerbread clock in Brookfield, NH, then heading to Moultonborough to pickup a few lots of model railroad cars and track to sell. After I picked up the clock on Governors Road, I was heading north and I noticed what looked like a small model of an F-unit locomotiove to my right, overgrown with weeds. Shortly after, I noticed some reduced-size railroad buildings on my left, not far from the roadway.
Thus began my quest to find out more about these. Unfortunately, time was my enemy, as I had a deadline to meet for my Moultonborough auction pickup. My curiosity would have to wait. But, I did have dashcam footage that I could refer to, if I remembered to download the files and GPS track before the data was overwritten; I did not have the presence of mind to ask Garmin to "save video".
Over the winter of 2024/2025, I found and downloaded my dashcam footage. I reviewed the footage, until I spotted the mini-railroad buildings. Then, I noted the latitude and longitude from the video at the location. I popped those geographic coordinates into Google Earth and found part of my answer, they were located in Brookfield, NH.
Fast-forward a year, to March 2025. I mentioned to my friend, Ray Dellovo, owner of Trains on Tracks, LLC, in Amherst, NH. He has a 24-inch gauge steam locomotive outside his train shop. His interest was piqued to what I had found out about these other 24-inch gauge trains in Brookfield.
